Salt Lake Capoeira shares the vibrant Afro-Brazilian art form of capoeira through regular classes for kids and adults, community outreach, and performances. It’s led by Volta Miúda capoeira group founder, Mestre Jamaika (Mauro Romualdo), who brings his expertise from Northeastern Brazil where capoeira originated. Capoeira began over 500 years ago when Africans who were taken to Brazil and enslaved trained to fight while disguising it as a dance. Over the years this “dance-like fight” evolved into capoeira, and today it brings people together to share positivity through movement and community.
