Roots Art Kollective:
We are the Roots Art Kollective, composed of three Mexican American artists, Miguel Galaz, Alan Ochoa, and Luis Novoa. Our mission is to expand public art to create a vibrant environment that allows people to learn about the cultures that enrich our communities. We have over 8 years of experience painting murals and have backgrounds in Art Education, Graphic Design, and Environmental Studies. We use our unique backgrounds and perspectives to create compelling public murals. The collective began painting community murals in 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our mission is to create public art that is both beautiful and meaningful and to use our art as a platform to engage with the community and promote positive social change.
Mercedes Nok Yi Ng:
Mercedes Ng is a Hong-Kong born oil painter whose cheerful paintings offer viewers a window into the complex interplay between personal memories, political turmoil, and the preservation of identity. In the heart of Hong Kong's complexity, she envisions a society where concealing one's true self becomes a necessity for survival. Her paintings reveal ordinary figures—the fruit sellers and passersby—who hide behind painted masks, both literal and metaphorical. These masks serve as shields against judgment as well as cloaks of anonymity.
